FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

New Tenants

Q: When will I get my key?

A:  This will be posted to you in the summer.

Q: Can I move in early?
A: Yes, contact Susan to make arrangements.

Q: What do I do about my utility bills if I choose the non inclusive option?
A: You should have signed a new registration document along with your housemates. Meter readings are taken before you move in and Susan will send the details to the relavent companies. It's always a good idea to take your own meter readings so you can save money.

Q: What is my bin day?
A: There is a file in all properties which contains details such as these, if it is missing or damaged, please contact Susan.

Q: How can I set up a Broadband connection?
A: All you will need is a router and to get yourself connected. Dont forget that many students are returning in October and this can result in connection waiting times of up to a month at that time of year. Please make sure cabelling does not interfere with fire safety requirements.

Q: What about washing machines?
A: If the leaving students do not have one in the house to sell you (many are passed on free of charge) we suggest you either hire one or, more economically, buy one which you can then sell on to the next students when you leave the property.

Q: What happens to my deposit?
A: It is held by LetsRent and insured by the Deposit Protection Service. Please visit www.mydeposit.co.uk for details of how this government scheme works. Full documentation and protection certificate is issue to you when your deposit is processed.

Please note your contract ends 12 noon Friday 3rd July 2012 and all keys must be returned on or before this date.

Q: There is mold growing on my wall, what should I do?
A: When you run hot water, or even breathe out warm air over night (up to a pint per person) moisture is released into the room. In colder months windows and some outside walls cause this moisture to condense and mold can form. The best way to combat this is to open windows for a short while to let the moisture escape.  Remember to close them for your own security. It is also important that items of furniture are not pushed up too close to the outside walls allowing air to circulate. Don't dry clothes on the radiator, where ever possible hang them outside but if this isn't possible use a rack in a well ventilated room with the door shut. If mold does start to form supermarkets sell anti mold spray that will ensure that mold doesn't stain or damage the walls and area round windows. Please ask Susan if you need more advice about this but remember that students are expected to look after their property during their tenancy.
A:  Ensure meters are read on the final day. Notify utility companies, including telephone, of your home address to send final bills to.  Send copies of final bills with proof of payment such as banker's stamp to Susan.

Q: How do I get my deposit back?
A: In addition to proof of paid bills the house and garden should be left clean and tidy, including rubbish removed and grass cut.  Please do not forget that communal areas are the equal responsibility of all tenants.  You should receive a list of breakage and cleaning costs, please advise Susan if you have not got this within two weeks of the end of your tenancy.
